The rise of Agentic AI: the qualitative change of AI from "auxiliary" to "steering"

The role of artificial intelligence is undergoing a subversive transition-from "an auxiliary tool to cooperate with human beings" to "a business agent for active decision-making"! IDC's latest forecast of 2026 FutureScape has drawn a clear dividing line for global enterprises: by 2027, more than half of the global enterprises will rely on agency AI (agency AI) to rebuild their operational core, and the current 1-2 years are the "window of life and death" that determines whether enterprises can lead in the new track.


No one can ignore the signal behind this set of key data: IDC predicts that by 2029, Agentic AI systems will account for nearly 50% of the global AI investment. This means that the stage of "AI only does simple assistance" has officially ended-the future AI will be like a "virtual manager" embedded in enterprise texture: independently planning logistics routes to cope with sudden congestion, dynamically optimizing factory production lines to meet market demand, and even customizing personalized treatment plans for patients and tracking curative effects without continuous human intervention.

 

But the reality is that most enterprises are still stuck in the fog of AI transformation: IDC's AI Maturity Model Benchmark shows that only 1% of enterprises have reached the mature stage of "AI optimization-driven", and more than 50% are still stuck in the quagmire of "scattered pilot projects"-AI projects are fragmented, data are blocked, and processes are fragmented, which not only causes a lot of investment waste, but also frequently deviates from the direction under the impact of economic fluctuations and regulatory changes. As IDC emphasized: "The question now is no longer' Will AI reshape the enterprise', but' Can you let AI enter the core of the whole enterprise from the experimental platform'."

 

To seize this wave, enterprises must jump out of the thinking of "tinkering around the edges" and aim at three core breaking points:

1. From "pilot toys" to "global arrangement": abandon isolated AI projects and make agent AI the "central nerve" for connecting data, applications and processes-for example, the AI of retail enterprises can independently link inventory, marketing and supply chain and dynamically adjust promotion strategies;

2. Build up competitive barriers with "trust": The more independent AI is, the more critical it is to be "controllable". Only by establishing a responsible AI system through transparent governance and human supervision can we avoid the "risk of losing control" and become a "reliable player" recognized by users and the market;

3. Jump out of the trap of "cost reduction" and create new value: the real potential of Agentic AI lies not in "saving manpower", but in "creating a new situation"-using AI to generate customized rehabilitation programs in the medical field and using AI to explore new investment scenarios in the financial industry. These "from 0 to 1" innovations are the key to lead.

 

The future is never "waiting", but "grabbing". When Agentic AI begins to define industry rules, those enterprises that upgrade technology stack, reshape team skills and write Agentic AI into the strategic core now can turn these subversive variables, such as economic fluctuation and technological change, into their own growth engines.
